Pastor Training, Teaching, and Fixing in Kenya, Trip 45

Tony, Eldon, and Ray are home now after completing a 10 day trip to Kenya including Nairobi and the Lord’s Servants Home (LSH) that is supported by Mission Servants Ministry (MSM) since 2007. Those three guys are a team with Christ-like hearts for teaching, serving, and loving others. Among other goals, they partnered with Pastors Henry and Moses, Kenyan Missionaries from Nairobi for a week of local Pastor training and teaching at LSH.

20 area Pastors were trained as a follow-up program to a week long session last year.

Ray spent the week teaching a bible course at the Compel High School in nearby Webuye.

Tony met with the older children from LSH that have completed High School and are planning a future either with further education or training, or business starting. We stay in touch and advise and help where we can. Kenya is a bleak place economically for young adults. A news source reports that 3.9 million Kenyans under 35 years old with college degrees are out of work or underemployed. Depending who you ask, the general unemployment of trained people is over 1/3. Tragic. We hope to focus the kids towards job creation and careers in demand.

Eldon taught a daily Adult Discipleship Class. Always a favorite of the Church Members.

Last year there was considerable effort to train local ladies in sewing. A room with good sewing machines was set up and several ladies trained. Tony found a thriving sewing group that calls itself the LSH sewing club. Plans were discussed to expand this initiative to a larger place to allow more to participate.

One area needing repair attention was the playground of the school. New parts were brought from the US and work organized to fix the playground. This was a popular effort!

A second main area of repair need was the battery backup system for the power for lights. Grid power has outages several times a week. The storage batteries that supplies power during outages were well beyond their lifespan. New batteries and other electrical system repairs were made.

Several Community Water Supply Projects that have been supported by MSM were visited. 11 new projects were completed since the visit last year providing safe clean water for over 2000 families. The latest one is on the left. This initiative continues in 2025.

Thank you all for your prayers and support of the hands on efforts of MSM to improve the futures of the LSH kids, the health of the community, and spreading the Gospel in the Bwase region of Kenya. Praise God for that work since 2007.

Blessings,

Bob

New Children Joining CRM

When the Child Redeemed Mission (CRM) Children’s Home in Uganda is able to accept new kids, I feel that prayers are being answered. Just imagine, a few days ago sleeping on the ground, having little to eat, no medical care or school, living ignored or worse each day, being a burden that can’t be carried any longer by the adults in your life…but now living in a happy beautiful place with dozens of kids, a bed to sleep in, 3 meals a day, people glad that you are there, and they are getting ready for you to go to school. I chose to believe that the adults in these kids lives do pray for something better for these kids and see CRM as an answer to that prayer.

First few days at CRM for Fionah, Dan, and Innocent Mutekanga.

How do new kids come to CRM? ….. The Social Workers at CRM are in contact with the District Child Officer (DCO). His job is to monitor the district and address children who are vulnerable, mistreated, and neglected. This has to be a daunting and overwhelming task. Usually neighbors report these children. Most kids are called orphans and have lost at least one parent to death and the other to inability or unwillingness to support them. When openings arise at CRM because kids finish High School the potential children needing to be removed from their situation are reviewed by the Social Workers and accepted if it is best for the kids. CRM is one of only a few registered and approved Children’s Homes in the district. The criteria to become so is steep and many many homes have been closed in Uganda over the past 5 years, over 90% of them. CRM is a special place…. a unique blend of efficient institution with a safe family atmosphere and a happy place to play, learn, and grow as a child. It is a place where Christian love is practiced, the Gospel believed, and kids are expected to grow up and have hopes and dreams.

Six new children arrived while we were at CRM in January. I love meeting new kids and knowing their lives are turning in a better direction. My favorite memories of them during the trip was noticing other kids leading them around, showing them things, playing with them, and making sure they were ok. I told the CRM Director Emma and Social Worker Gorretti that I was impressed at the love the kids show the new kids and know it is because an atmosphere of love and family is strong throughout CRM. I’m so appreciative for that!

Most of these kids will start at the new Child Redeemed Mission Primary School that just opened and will be supported through High School and usually somewhat beyond by MSM. The children’s extended family will be encouraged to be involved, especially as the kids become teenagers. Family connections are important and will be a foundation for the kids as they enter adulthood eventually.

Caring for these kids is possible by the prayers and support of donors. It cost about $50 per month on average to care for, clothe, feed, and educate a child. Thank you to those that are helping. Please pray about helping if this touches you.

Here are the entry bios for the 6 children that joined in January.

Living at CRM…..

Yes, CRM is a special place. Thank you. Praise the Lord!

Mission Accomplished – Trip 44 Uganda

The 6 of us returned home earlier this week after accomplishing our goals. The Child Redeemed Mission Primary School (CRMPS) has furniture and start up supplies, the electrical system was upgraded at Child Redeemed Mission Home (CRM), a solar power system and new playground was installed at Rock View Primary School (RVPS), a 3 Day discipleship class was held, and many smaller repairs and projects were completed.

We welcomed 7 new kids to CRM and brought a few hundred pounds of kids clothes and soccer gear.

All the kids are ready to start schools on Monday and CRMPS is ready to open February 3rd. I’ll share more about this in an upcoming post.

I wish everyone could visit CRM and the other MSM ministry efforts. They are special…warm loving blessings. Those of us that are sent by the rest of us are the fortunate ones. Thank you all for your prayers and support to make this work what it is. And…Thank God!!!

Trip 44 to Uganda is set for January 15, 2024

Six men will travel to the Child Redeemed Mission Home (CRM) in Kamuli, Uganda and serve all of the many ministry efforts established by Mission Servants Ministry in the area there. One main priority is to help insure that the new Bwase Redeemed Junior Elementary School (BRJS) is ready to open in early February. A 5 room class building and latrine are under construction. In addition to finishing the buildings…staffing, registration of pupils, curriculum materials, and all furniture needs to be completed.

It looks like there is a lot of work to be done but by the 2nd week of February there will be 3 classes of children learning instead of staying home.

These are some of the Projects we plan to conclude on the trip…

  • Leading a team of local carpenters to build 35 tables, 60 benches, and other furniture for the new to open BRJS school.
  • Leading a team of carpenters to build 6 picnic tables for CRM dinner shelter.
  • Installing a water line and access tap from the main CRM water tank out to the BRJS school.
  • Installing 3 new solar panels into the CRM solar power grid.
  • Leading a team in moving a playground at RVPS and installing 6 Teeter Totters.
  • Several plumbing and electrical repair issues among the locations.

Human Service efforts…

  • Welcoming several new children to live at CRM.
  • Children’s activities and ministry.
  • Sharing in church and supporting community ministry.
  • Review and support the Home Schooling for challenged learners program.
  • Visit and support Nisaya Clinic in establishing a new maternity service.

Mission Support initiatives…

  • Support in establishing the initial staff, materials, and curriculum at BRJS.
  • Support in implementing the initial computerized student registration and ledger system at BRJS.
  • Transporting needed tools and supplies for all MSM efforts.
  • Review and support several current microloans to Kids and partner organizations.
  • Add to the CRM children and adult spiritual library.
  • Leave support for initiatives that will take place after the team departs and preparations for the next future trip.

I will continue to post regularly on this trip and progress of projects. Please pray for our protection, provisions, and planning. May God be honored.

While praying for us, if you are led to be part of it, please jump to more information on our website to find out how.

Merry Christmas and a blessed new year to you, Bob
