Trip 28 to Uganda and Kenya Update 3 …Medical Outreach

A full joint effort among the Child Redeemed Mission Home, Bwase Redeemed Church, and Mission Servants Ministry produced a Medical Outreach project on the CRM grounds for the local community.  Services were provided without charge as a practical expression of love, that are not readily accessible or affordable.  Eyes/vision, dental, and general medical services were professionally available as well as the needed drugs.  A local Doctor, Nurse, Phlebotomists, Dentist were brought in and well as Dr. Randall helping people with eye and vision issues.  Even two young men from the Kenyan Lord’s Servants Home visited to serve.  The CRM facility was perfect for hosting this event.  The local police and community leadership also showed their support.

The numbers are amazing….. over 800 adults and children served.  The goal was for each of them to be personally prayed for by one of the BRC church members, children to be played with by the CRM kids, and all treated with hospitality as they waited.  We had to shut the gates by 12:30pm the second day but treated every person that arrived before that happened, by 5:00pm.

Over 100 people were seen by Dr. Randall Thomas OD and treated for irritated eyes and infections or given prescription or reading glasses and needed drugs and medicine.  Dr. Randall brought an Autorefractor device loaned to us from PlenOptika, which automatically assesses vision and provides a corrective prescription if needed.  Eye glasses were donated by Restoring Vision and others.  I caught a photo of a man breaking out in a big smile when he first looked clearly through some glasses given to him.  A girl with an eye threatening infection was diagnosed and treated.  Another young girl that already lost an eye was evaluated for future assistance.

Dental services such as teeth pulling and infection treatment were given to over 100 people by a hard working local dentist and a team of volunteers that tirelessly sterilized instruments and served the people before and after.  Case after case of pain relief.

A team from Kamuli Mission Hospital of Dr., Nurse, Phlebotomist, medical student (our own Kenny from Lords’s Servants Home in Kenya) and many volunteers served nearly 600 people with Malaria Testing, Blood Pressure screening, treatment for a number of common illnesses and conditions, needed drugs, and promise of follow up services.  Several severe cases were referred and these people will continue to be assisted.  This team worked extremely hard.

Most importantly people were met on a personal level and prayed for.  This was a powerful opportunity that the members of the BRC Church took advantage of to share the love of Christ in a practical way to their community.  Over 60 people prayed to receive Jesus as their savior during the outreach alone.  We praise God for such an awesome blessing!  Thank you to all who donated to this project to allow the hiring of professionals and purchase of supplies and drugs.  An impact of love was made to a needy group of people and children and many kids and volunteers experienced a servant Ministry.
