New Girls Dorm – Moved In :-)

The girls moved into their new dorm home last week.  It is an incredible upgrade from where they have been staying for the last few years, which was the original unfinished house on the property.  The boys moved into their new building in 2015.  It is exciting because now all the kids are in quality, clean, and equal accommodations and capacity is expanded to allow SOH to begin accepting additional kids in 2017.

We will be installing lights inside and outside, gutters and rain water collection, curtains, and personal storage, and concrete pads between the buildings during the MSM visitation trip in the 2nd half of January, 2017.  This will complete the building.  Total cost will be less than $50,000 for a 10 room building…amazing.

There are 40 children being raised at SOH, 15 will be at boarding High Schools and Trade Schools starting in January.  With this addition, SOH can increase to a potential of 60 children living on site, God willing and providing.

New Girls Dorm – SOH. Update 2

We just completed the 2nd month of construction on the new Girls Dorm at Stream of Hope Home in Uganda with good progress made.  It is under roof now.  Window and door fitting and the plastering of the walls inside and out is commencing.  After plastering the walls, ceiling, and floors, painting is all that will be left to finish by the contractor.  We should see the building finished within the next 4 to 6 weeks.  The girls will be moved in then during our next trip in January, we will install lights and gutters.

We started this project in faith and need and without full funding.  The total cost of the building is a very economical $50,000.  If you are led to be part of this project please contact us at bob@missionservants.org.

Here are a few photos of what happened in month two….

New Girls Dorm – SOH

We launched the project to build a new Girls Dorm at Stream of Hope Home in Uganda in June.  The project was needed for a number of reasons.  The original house that came with the property is too small for the girls and needs renovations to meet the Ugandan Children’s Home Standards.  The new building is a copy of the Boys Dorm and will provide space to increase the number of children that we can serve.  This building will be completed in early October.

We started this project in faith, having no choice, and with 1/2 of the funding.  If you are led to be part of this project please contact us at missionservants.org.

Here is a months progress in reverse….

Trip 17, Update 5, LSH Kenya

3 different waves of 11 of us arrived well in Kenya almost 2 weeks ago.  I haven’t been able to post much but I’ll catch up on the great things that have been going on.

Today we completed a major project….playground for the Lord’s Servants Academy.  We brought some metal bending equipment with us and after a week of welding, concrete, and assembly, we opened the playground to an eager crowd.  The approval rating was high.  This is the only playground for miles…and the best I have seen.  It is for the LSA kids but is open to all kids in the community after school.

Trip 17, Introduction

Tomorrow, 26 May, Casey and I will begin Trip 17 which will ultimately include 12 people and transpire over 2 months.  We have a diverse team including teachers, college students, an eye Doctor, and us regulars.  The youngest is 16, several are first timers to mission trips, and some will incorporate the results of their work in their Graduate thesis.

We will be working at the Stream of Hope Home in Uganda, the Lord’s Servants Home and Academy in Kenya , and visiting a Pastors Training College working in the border region with the Teso people.

One of our projects will be installing a water tank that will allow treated drinking water to be available to the community around the SOH home.  This was funded by fund raising efforts from Ms. Spencer’s awesome 4th grade class at Patriots Elementary School who have been studying about water crisis’ in the world.image

We will also be installing additional solar panels at SOH, building a playground at the LSA School, several smaller projects, meetings to chart the future for the orphanages and school, lots of child educational programs, social efforts with the kids involving art therapy discipline, lots of community support activities following up on previous trips, and equipping church planters in the Teso region with audio Bibles in their language and solar powered video equipment to show the Jesus Film, courtesy of Campus Crusade for Christ.

We thank you in advance for your prayers for God’s guidance, wisdom, and provisional safety and for our families that are back home.

Look for my frequent (hopefully) blog updates.
