Trip 26 – Uganda…Promise Primary School expands and opens.

Last September MSM began funding a four room expansion of the classroom building at Promise Primary School serving the Nabwigulu community about 15 km from the CRM Home.  The expansion was needed to add the 6th and 7th grade classes and allow more children to register.  A fresh water well was dug and installed to serve the school in October.  During this trip a school necessity was installed….a playground! …. and rain gutters and 60 desks and 6 tables.

Promise Primary had 225 students last year and has opened the 2019 school year with 400 students registered.  Many of the additional 175 kids had not been attending school or were in poor learning situations.  The goal is to expand registration by another 50 students eventually, including families that can not pay the modest tuition as sponsorship funding is available.  The vision is to impact the community in a long term way….education.

Imagine such excitement over school…

Finished building….added rain gutters for the rainy season.

I love building playgrounds!

Desks………and water

Trip 26 – Uganda, Update 4…..Back to school.

This was back to school week for kids in Uganda and the ones at Child Redeemed Mission Home approach it with a lot of enthusiasm….Shopping, supplies accumulation, prayer meetings, head shaving, making of fried crispy dough called Daddies (their version of snack chips).  6 existing High Schoolers were joined by 7 first year students and 32 elementary school aged kids started school.

CRM kids know that their future is why they are going to school and value the opportunity.  Sadly, even as I walk the kids to school, I pass dozens and dozens of kids working in the family gardens or just hanging out…not going to school.  A life in early years without hope for future opportunities is so sad.  CRM kids have the opportunity to have dreams and goals.  Praise God.

We purposely plan our January trips to coincide with the end of their holiday vacation and to be part of the going back to school time.  One transition we celebrate is from Primary School to High School.  We took the 7 new high schoolers to town for a nice lunch, chat about the future, Fatherly advice, and prayer.  That was a real treat for them….and then shopping in town for shoes and remaining needs for going to boarding school.

Partner Project with Promise Primary School Building Addition…Update 4 FINISHED!!!

This exciting project to add 4 new classrooms to the Promise Primary School and impact children’s lives is complete.  This school is the vision of Noah Mugabi, Director and Lillian Russell, a woman from South Carolina with a heart for Ugandan children.  The vision was to provide a quality education to the small community of Nabwigulu village, Kamuli district, Uganda (Africa) about 5 km from the town of Kamuli.  The school was adding temporary buildings but was not able to accommodate the volume of children in the area needing a school.

A core purpose of Mission Servants Ministry is to help ministry organizations that have child serving visions, to achieve them to the benefit of children….sooner rather than later.  This project will allow 425 children to enroll in January, up from the current 250 and adding the final upper grades in primary school…Grade 6 and 7.  Promise Primary is now a full primary school with quality programs, clean water, and coming soon (next trip in January) a playground.  This project was completed for under $16,000.   The other assistance MSM provided was mentorship in planning and budgeting with the goal being that Promise Primary will operate in a fiscally self sufficient manner in 2019.

During the month since the last update, the 4 classroom addition project was finished by hanging doors, installing plexi-glass in the doors and windows, finish the plastering inside, and painting.   Also during this project a water well was dug and a pump installed.  Finally, a very exciting parent and community open house was held discussing the school vision.  All glory to God!

The school will open for Term I of 2019 in the end of January.  The MSM Trip 26 in January will include building desks and tables and building seesaws and swings.

We praise God for all this and appreciate your prayers and support.
