Updates from our trips to Kenya.

Trip 24 – LSH Home Kenya

Greg and I returned recently from visiting the Lord’s Servants Home (LSH) in Kitale, Kenya.  It has been some time since our last visit.  Our goals on this trip were to assess the effectiveness of the management, condition of the home, school, and children, and to fortify communications and objectives for the education and future of the Children that MSM has sponsored over the years.  We found everyone doing well and preparing to start Term III of this school year.  I specifically enjoyed meeting with the older kids who have finished High School and was encouraged with their progress….many of them are in college courses like Kenny in Nursing School and some working jobs, including Brenda who is now a teacher at the school.  Others are in the planning stages of taking steps toward their future education and profession.

The Lord’s Ministries (TLM) is the Kenyan ministry that operates the LSH and school.  Since our last visit, TLM has changed staff, assumed responsibility for operation funding, and has refocused on ministry objectives.  This was all evident and positive.

The partnership status with TLM involves that MSM provide for school fees and school supplies while TLM provide all other support and funding such as salaries, food, medical, and utilities.  This trip was an unannounced visit and we verified that TLM has been acting in good faith to support the children in a healthy manner, operating the home and school as well as possible, and using the infrastructure in a responsible way.  MSM will continue with this partnership arrangement which focuses on…..

  • Assisting through funding the kids education in an accountable way.
  • Trips to assist with the repair of the buildings and assets used to care for the children.
  • Encourage and bless them in a Gospel way.

We supported these objectives on this trip by paying school fees, shopping for school supplies the older kids need, buying new mattresses and bedding, and making plans for an infrastructure and spiritual support trip in 2019.

Trip 20 to Uganda, Post 5 – Partners

IMG_2723One cool thing that I have realized during our work in Africa is how vast God’s network of workers are and how complex and perfectly tuned are His plans.  MSM is involved at CRM because we were connected via Holy Spirit and internet to Kathy Bailey and her ministry Dominion Divas and she asked us to investigate in 2013.  That was the beginning of our work in Uganda.

Much of the work we are able to accomplish is through help from other ministries.

Water Missions International had helped us with installing water wells at both CRM and IMG_2618the Kenyan orphanages as well as solar power installations.  They are working with us on a project planned for our next trip to install a pump, chlorinator, and tank on an old well at the Balowoli Pimary School that our kids and 1200 other community kids attend.

 

We visited the Promise Primary School in a nearby town 22403983_726180607575127_199721876_othat is sponsored by Lillian, a 72 year old woman from South Carolina who has a heart for Ugandan kids and started a school two years ago.  MSM helped her finish a badly needed latrine.  The school has rapidly grown due to the need of poor families in that area and her resources were stretched keeping up with over 200 kids.

 

MSM worked with Ve’Neesha, a young lady who started the Love Exchange United IMG_2658ministry and sponsors school kids at the Rock View Primary School in a nearby town.  This is a new school started by a retired Ugandan Pastor and Schoolteacher to help the local kids get a good start in education.  A project is planned to build desks and tables for their expanding school during our trip in January.

 

World Mission donated solar powered audio devices called Treasures that have the Bible translated in Ateso.  MSM delivered roughly 100 now to a group of Ugandan Teso Pastors that are reaching Kenyan Teso people.  The Jesus Film ministry donated two solar powered video projectors that we delivered to allow the Teso evangelists to show the Jesus Film to thousands of Teso people.  Restoring Vision has donated hundreds of reading glasses that MSM has fitted to people that lost the blessing of reading due to age, and trained others to bring this blessing into the field.

The Kamuli Mission Hospital in Kamuli and their sponsors provide excellent care for our kids when they have medical needs.

Abandoned Children’s Foundation has been partnering with MSM to bring volunteers and support to the Lord’s Servants Home in Kenya and CRM in Uganda.  These volunteers are vital to the children and orphanages and do wonderful and loving work.

There are many other individuals and groups that are standing to help and are brought in by God’s faithfulness.  It is humbling and awesome.  This is all our Father’s work and we just need to submit to the call and be faithful.  God IS good.

Trip 18, SOH Uganda

Four of us, Jon, Emily, Rick, and myself are in route to the Stream of Hope Home in Byasi, Uganda.  This is Jon’s 3rd trip and first for his daughter Emily as well as for Rick.  The team will be together for two weeks then all return except I will stay an additional two weeks.  Between us we have nearly 700 pounds of stuff to bless the kids with and complete our projects.  We will arrive there Saturday afternoon.

We are bringing over 1000′ of heavy wire, 4 electrical boxes, security lights for outside, lights for inside of the new girls dorm, a fan for the kitchen, a folding aluminum ladder, plumbing valves for water collection, tools, books and toys for the kids, a laptop and 20 solar powered audio Bibles for the Teso ministry, and a keyboard for the church at SOH.  We have a lot planned and look forward to being with the kids and staff.

Pastor Paul’s prayer request is for rain.  It has not done so in months, even though it is the time for rain.  The well there I see not functioning because of the drought.

Trip 17, Update 5, LSH Kenya

3 different waves of 11 of us arrived well in Kenya almost 2 weeks ago.  I haven’t been able to post much but I’ll catch up on the great things that have been going on.

Today we completed a major project….playground for the Lord’s Servants Academy.  We brought some metal bending equipment with us and after a week of welding, concrete, and assembly, we opened the playground to an eager crowd.  The approval rating was high.  This is the only playground for miles…and the best I have seen.  It is for the LSA kids but is open to all kids in the community after school.

Trip 17, Update 4 Teso

After 10 days at Stream of Hope Home we traveled to Kenya and spent 2 nights with a ministry evangelizing the Teso people….a people group along the Ugandan border that is unreached in some areas and under reached in most.  Sweet people.

We left 30 audio Bibles in the Ateso language and 2 solar powered projectors with the Jesus Film in Ateso, donated by Campus Crusade for Christ, to allow this group of church planters to show the Jesus Film and start Bible study cells in remote areas.

We encouraged them at one of their churches….the shade under a big mango tree…my kind of church then showed the Jesus Film to two groups.
