We’re Home! Incredible Trip!!! ….Post #11

We arrived home on Saturday afternoon and share the view that we had much more than a great trip.   We were blessed to be exactly where and do exactly what we were supposed to.  It is hard to explain in a few words just how we know that things could never have happened like they did under our control so all I’ll add to this brief summary and few photos for now is PRAISE GOD!

We did witness God’s will in making a new well come into completed existence despite our belief that it was not possible to even start it.

We did witness God’s provision by making it possible that all the right people, organizations, equipment, supplies, skills, time, funds, weather, and timing was just right to make this large project get completed in less than 2 weeks.

We saw several other projects come to fruition to support the home and even harvested honey from the hives started last year.  Terri was the right person at the right time to fill in for an absent Nursery School teacher and Dorothy who just had a baby.

We witnessed the power of Jesus’ name in seeing people …. praise Him in faith and joy while in desperate situations we couldn’t imagine before, love one another in a selfless way, dedicate themselves to spreading the Good News of Salvation, give their lives to Him and be baptised, and see a demon cast out of a young teenaged girl.

We witnessed God’s compassion by placing us in the right place to provide help with food, medicine, emergency dental service, love, and encouragement.  We received His joy by being His hands and feet!!!!!  God brought Dorothy’s daughter, baby Stephanie into the world while we were there.

Thank you for your prayers, support, and encouragement. More to come……

It is amazing the help people crave that we just take for granted.

A Shower…what’s next Ice Cream? Post #5

Well it rained hard on us today but we still got a bunch accomplished.

* The well is pumping water now with a temporary pump overnight to flush out and they will be complete tomorrow.  We made arrangements to purchase a pump and chlorinator and install them early next week.  The piping and tank will be ready.  It is amazing that a project of this magnitude can happen within 1 week when it wasn’t expect to even start.  Praise God is all I can say.

* The first shower was taken at the LSH.  We installed an elevated tank and piping.

* The first toilet flush was made at the LSH.  Needs a little work but it flushed.

* 50 Ice Cream headaches occurred simultaneously today at the LSH

We dished out 6 gallons of ice cream. For some, their first.

Merry Christmas!!!

Merry Christmas! and Happy New Year! are greetings and blessings of peace and hope.  I feel that the true blessing that we can give and receive is when you do more than say words but instead work toward making them true.  It is arguably true that after decades of international effort and trillions of dollars spent trying to bring peace and end hunger and disease in Africa, the situation is relatively unchanged and remains a tragedy of daunting proportions.  It is clear to me that A) the only true hope and peace is found in Jesus Christ and B) the people who are going to make the biggest changes in Africa are going to be Africans.  It is a necessity that we all work on both short-term needs and long-term solutions.

Thank you for working in general for peace and hope in the world through your faith and compassion in anything you do and specifically with us at The Lord’s Servants Home in Kitale, Kenya to raise up Godly, loving, future leaders that we currently know as our Kids.  We have spent 100% of the over $100,000 provided in 2012 for support, clothing, schooling, health, and new and upgraded facilities for soon to be 60 children.  A similar amount will be spent in 2013 and will accomplish the same goals including a new water well and classroom building for The Lord’s Servants Academy, both of which will serve the community around the orphanage in the same way, providing a practical means toward peace and hope, investing in sharing the love of Christ and in children.

It pulls at my heart when our children thank me for paying their school fees, and when they get excited about new clothes or a book.  I’m impressed how they work hard at chores and schoolwork and play even harder.  I love how they care for each other and how they sing to the top of their lungs praising God.  Lastly I’m humbled by the intensity of the prayers that come out of their little mouths in unison like a beehive.  I know they pray for us way more that we pray for them.  This all has to be very joyful to our Father.

So….May the Peace, Joy, Love, and Hope that God gave to the world through Jesus Christ reside and manifest in you and your family this season and always!

Thank you again and God bless you,

Bob and Kathy Hillebrand, Pastor Moses and the staff at the LSH, volunteers and helpers around the world, and the children.

Here is a great Christmas Song making me think about Africa…from 1984.

Another version…from 1989

And again….from 2004

Lyrics to Do They Know It’s Christmas :

(B. Geldof)
It’s Christmastime,
there’s no need to be afraid
At Christmastime,
we let in light and we banish shade
And in our world of plenty
we can spread a smile of joy
Throw your arms around the world
at Christmastime.
But say a prayer,
pray for the other ones
At Christmastime it’s hard,
but when you’re having fun
There’s a world outside your window,
and it’s a world of dread and fear
Where the only water flowing
is the bitter sting of tears
And the Christmas bells that ring there
are the clanging chimes of doom
Well tonight thank God it’s them
instead of you.
And there won’t be snow in Africa this Christmastime
The greatest gift they’ll get this year is life (Oooh)
Where nothing ever grows
No rain or rivers flow
Do they know it’s Christmastime at all?
Here’s to you raise a glass for everyone
Here’s to them underneath that burning sun
Do they know it’s Christmastime at all?
Feed the world
Feed the world
Feed the world
Let them know it’s Christmastime again

LSH Kids school progress 3rd trimester, 2012

We really believe that education is the only way the kids will be part of the solution of Kenya’s problems and have options in their own lives.  Education and prayer is the means to our goals of them arriving at adulthood being prepared to be productive and realize God’s purpose for their lives.

The year-end results can be viewed in the link below.  Many of the kids did really well, some exceptionally.  We are seeing some kids struggle and several needing to repeat grades.  A pattern exists that the kids coming from the government school, Misanga, are not being prepared adequately.  They may do well at Misanga up to the 3rd or 4th grade but struggle after being enrolled at the tougher Seed of Hope School for the higher grades.  We have employed 3 teachers to tutor the kids over Christmas break and will keep working with them.  We also hope to expand the Lord’s Servants Academy to 1st through 3rd grades so that we can prepare our youngest kids better.

All our kids work very hard at school and are thankful to be able to go.

Please check out the progress in the link below.

LSH Kids school progress 2nd trimester, 2012

Education is a huge priority and the only way the kids will be part of the solution of Kenya’s problems and have options in their own lives.  Education and prayer is the means to our goals of them arriving at adulthood being prepared to be productive and realize God’s purpose for their lives.

We have expanded the number of kids we can send to The Seed of Hope School and have started our own early education school, The Lord’s Servants Academy to make sure our young kids (and community kids) are prepared for grade school.

Our kids are doing pretty well and we have several in High School now.  Some of them need extra tutor help and attention which is provided.  Please check out the progress in the link below.
